What To Expect During a Contact Lens Fitting at Andrew Stone Optometry

At Andrew Stone Optometry, our Columbia eye doctor takes great pride in being the area's trusted practice for all your eye and vision care needs. Have you been thinking about making the switch from traditional eyeglasses to contact lenses? If so, then it may be time to schedule a contact lens fitting with our eye doctor. These appointments allow us to assess your eye and vision health to determine what type of contact lens will best suit you. From there, we can help to make the transition from glasses to contacts as comfortable and seamless as possible.

A contact lens fitting/exam is different from a traditional eye and vision exam in a number of ways. While these appointments do include eye and vision testing, they go a few steps further by also taking into consideration the unique shape of the eye as well as any eye diseases or conditions you may have that could hinder your transition to wearing contact lenses. During a contact lens fitting, our eye doctor will use a tool called a keratometer to take precise measurements of your eye's lenses, corneas, and pupils. These measurements can then be used to order custom/specialty contact lenses were needed to ensure a comfortable fit. This is especially important for patients who have eye conditions like astigmatism (abnormal curvature of the eye's lens) that could otherwise make wearing traditional contact lenses difficult.

At the close of your contact lens fitting appointment, you will know exactly which type of contact lens is best recommended for your needs and lifestyle. And since we carry a wide range of lenses (including specialty lenses) in our office, we can even assist you with ordering your first set.
